The Oregon Boot

Transporting criminals can be risky business for law enforcement officers. One way to prevent their escape is to load them down with heavy footwear. This device, called an ‘Oregon boot’, has a heavy metal ring that encircles one of the prisoner’s ankles, effectively hobbling the offender. American, c. 1910
